2018 BWB Season Power Rankings

2018

End Of Season Power Rankings

1. Special K's: Every doubt of this team in 2018 has been proved wrong with the reign of the trophy over their heads. With the clutch pitching and hitting from both Jake and Alex, this team was able to shut out a first place Process team who won 5 out of the 6 regular season games against them. Both Jake and Alex both came up clutch at the right times in the championship to sweep the best pitching team in the league to win it all. Now they have a chance to assert their dominance and defend their title next year. +2

2. Kraken: This team finished strong and carried it into the postseason. They took advantage of a Panthers team who limped into the postseason with control issues on the mound and didn't even need a hit to do so. In the championship the slow offense caught up to them as they were unable to maintain pace with the Special K's. There is no question that this team surprised this season with their new roster building strategy and one big bat could make the difference in winning it all next year. +2

3. Panthers: The Panthers dominated the whole league offensively throughout the season. Unfortunately, they were unable to keep games close on the rubber due to extensive walks which came back to haunt them towards the end of the season and was reidorated in the postseason leading to a early elimination. However, their offense is among the best in league history and with one easy fix, this team could be back to dominating their opponents. -2

4. The Process: For the second straight season, the bats of this team have gone silent in the wildcard and lead to the loss against the eventual champions. There is no doubt that this team impressed year winning a division single handedly and the stats are all there. In this case, the difference could be another player to add to the depth of this team to balance the workload. -2

5. Sea Thieves: The most improved team of the year was unable to find their way to the postseason but the good news is that the problem is clear. With the 2018 roster returning with a possible acquisition of an impact player, getting players like Victor to games lead this team to the championship in 2016 and it seems like this is what this franchise needs to end the longest championship drought. =

6. Mustangs: Like we keep saying, this team had to be dominant in the first half to have a postseason chance but even though there were many losses, there were many bright spots. The Mustangs have been a staple in the league for four years and their impact will be missed. Fournately, AJ was able to impress everyone with one of the greatest postseason performances in league history at the plate. =

July-August Power Rankings

1. Panthers: Entering the month 10-2 there was not much ground to lose in a division with one team over .500 but that should not ignore the fact that this team went 2-4 this month. Their offense has been inconsistent and their pitching has been wild turning heads. It isn’t time to push the panic button yet but this team is definitely limping into the postseason. =

2. The Process: With their win over the Special K’s in the last game of the season, they have won the race for the one seed in the South. They dominated the season series against them but struggled against the other two contenders making the race closer than it should have been. Evan will try to defy odds and expectations by attempting to win it all solo. =

3. Special K’s: Coming off a disappointing June the Special K’s bounced back well in July being the top team in the month. The blowout sweep of the Panthers shocked the league and kept the race close for first. The main worry is making it past the wildcard as the Process was the only team to win the season series against them but then again that it not the worst problem to have. +1

4. Kraken: Parker has lead his team back to the postseason for the first time since 2016. The offense has done enough to make Parker’s historic year on the mound rewarded in a start following game 24. Even in the absence of James, the Kraken got the help of rookie Nick to put on the hitting clinic against the Panthers. This team has many good pieces but they all need to come through to win it all. -1

5.Sea Thieves: For the second straight season this team find their season’s end after game 24. A 7-5 second half was a great improvement but couldn’t dig them out of the early hole from the first half. This team simply didn’t have the offense to match other teams and when it did produce, it never matched the pitching performance. With an early 2019 pick, a new foundation could be in the making. =

6. Mustangs: After a four year tenure in the league, the Mustangs will be replaced come 2019. Nothing seemed to click well this season the the early hole dug was too big to climb out of but great memories were made during their four year tenure in the league. They will definitely be missed. =

June Power Rankings

1. Panthers (3-1 In June) (10-2 Overall): The Panthers has yet another successful month to remain on top of the North. Peter and Vinny both have contributed to splitting a twinbill with the Special K's and to a sweep of the Stangs. From these games it is fair to say that this team's best attribute is their offense and so as long as the pitching can be acceptable, this team should remain on top. =

 2. The Process (7-1 In June) (9-5 Overall): A big improvement has been made by the solo team captained by Evan. This team has defeated every challenge put in front of them and it has lead to gaining first place. The big seven win month included three big wins against the Special K's that has shown glimpses on the better team to take home the division. As Evan keeps dominating on the mound and gets timely hits, this team can turn more heads and go for the division title. +4

3. Kraken (3-2 In June) (6-7 Overall): A month of over .500 wiffleball has helped this team move forward. The sweep over the Sea Thieves suggests that the Kraken are the superior team to make the playoffs. AJ filled in very well as he dominated on the mound and came up clutch at the plate against the Process. The Kraken will face the Panthers next month to attempt to keep their division title hopes alive but a successful June overall. =

4. Special K's (2-5 In June) (5-6 Overall): We have seen this before... Another new team starts out strong and begins to regress come the summer like the Dashers did in their inaugural season in 2016. The split over the Panthers was promising but losing three straight against their division rival Process hurts. Jake has continued to pitch well but the offense has not been coming through at the right moments leading to many close losses. They still have many games left to make a comeback and a little clutch hitting can lead to this. -2

5. Sea Thieves (1-4 In June) (3-9 Overall): We knew this team had to hit to compete this season and their number one problem has shifted from the rubber to the plate. This team is simply not scoring enough to win games and this was clearly seen in the series against the Kraken. The good news is that Brandon and Victor have become a nice one-two punch to solve the pitching problem and if their bats can wake up, they can still make a run. -1

6. Mustangs (0-3 In June) (2-6 Overall): The last month of Griffin's BWB career has came and went without a victory. The Mustangs simply did not have it this year like they did last year. Griffin has moved away and retired and the team is now under their new rookie captain Brendan who dealt AJ to the Kraken immediately to start fresh. With low expectations here on out, a whole new roster and plan coming will try to dig this team out of a hole to make a run for postseason wiffleball. -1

April-May Power Rankings

1. Panthers (1-0 In April) (3-1 In May) (7-1 Overall): The Panthers kept dominating in April beating the Mustangs to maintain a strong lead over the Kraken and Sea Thieves for first place. Through the first 5 games Peter has done exceptionally well on the mound and at the plate showing no weaknesses entering May. In May the Panthers took 2 out of 3 from The Process using the bats of Peter and Vinny to make the pitching of this team seem inferior to maintain a strong lead in first.  =

2. Special K's (0-0 In April) (0-0 In May) (3-1 Overall): The Special K's did not appear in April and May due to other teams needing to get games in. So far this team is the only team in the South to show that they can stay over .500 but then again they have not faced the teams in their division yet. =

3. Kraken (1-1 In April) (1-1 In May) (3-5 Overall): The Kraken split two twinbills against the Sea Thieves and Mustangs to not move backwards in the standings. James continues to provide the much needed power to this team while Parker's pitching has earned two game one victories. The only negative was that James continues to struggle on the mound leading to two game two losses. If this team wants to sweep doubleheaders, they need to find an arm for second games and we will see if Brendan can be that arm. +2

4. Sea Thieves (1-1 In April) (1-1 In May) (2-5 Overall): After finally getting their 100th franchise win out of the way to start April, the Sea Thieves struggled in their next two games against the Kraken and the Panthers. While the offense has not been scoring enough runs, the pitching isn't keeping this team in games as well. Brandon did turn in a solid start against The Process to end the month and Brandon and Darien came up clutch in their best win of 2018. A good June can help this team get past the Kraken and make a run for the Panthers. +2

5. Mustangs (0-1 In April) (1-1 In May) (2-3 Overall): A slow April and May did not bring many positives. The pitching wasn't all that bad but it could not keep up with the offense. On the bright side, AJ is off to his best season yet offensively and has still proved to be the ace of this team. If Griffin's bat can come alive like it did last year, this team can make a mark before the all-star game. -2

6. The Process (0-0 In April) (1-3 In May) (2-4 Overall): Even though this team played 3 out of their 4 games in May against the Panthers, it would had been more convincing to place this team higher but the lack of pitching has continued to lose this team games. With all four games of the year against the Panthers finished extremely early. It will soon start to show if this team can be playoff bound. -2

Week 1 3/25-4/1

1. Panthers (3-0): Peter came out strong with a solo sweep of the division rival Kraken and run-ruled The Process to defend their title. Peter came up clutch offensively in every game and proved why this team is built for the postseason. Tristan will provide even more depth to help this team lock up this division early.

2. Special K's (3-1): The team picked 5th in the pre-season surprised everyone in every aspect of play. The combination of Jake, Alex, and Matt have proved to be a dangerous trio that can hit anyone and with the decent starting pitching of Alex and Jake, this team's offense can lead them far.

3. Mustangs (1-1): They dropped their opening game against the process but after a victory against the Sea Thieves, this team proved that their loss was only a rough start. AJ has looked like an ace on the rubber and both Griffin and AJ have been hitting for great averages at the plate with the occasional homer to lead the offensive charge. With more competitive matchups in April, there is more to prove but so far a nice start indeed.

4. The Process (1-1): This team opened up great with a comeback win but after a 27-10 loss against the Panthers, the pitching has become questionable. Again the calendar has barely struck April yet but if this team wants to compete Evan needs to show he is an ace or get help from Mathew and Marcelo.

5. Kraken (1-3): A heatbreaking first two games has lead this team to be on the wrong side of a 1-3 record but taking games from the Special K's and the Sea Thieves along with keeping it close with the Panthers for both games shows that this team is better and ready to make a run for first but goal number one should be to find a number two pitcher to have the ability to sweep doubleheaders.

6. Sea Thieves (0-3): A rough start for a team coming off a poor 2017 that needs redemption. At the plate this team is putting up runs better than expected with Victor and Bennett leading the way but can't seem to find a pitcher to hold opposing teams at bay but if Bob can settle in, they can make a playoff run. After all it is still early.

Pre-Spring Training Rankings

1. Panthers: The Panthers have proved that they can find a way to win no matter who is on their roster so with the up and coming potential of Tristan on the mound combined with his bat, he will only contribute to the attempted three-peat.

2. Kraken: Coming off a disappointing offensive performance in 2017, Parker hopes the answer will come from James and Tochi to go along with their league best pitching. If this team can hit as well as they pitched last year then they can give the Panthers quite the competition.

3. The Process: After becoming the new standout team in 2017, Evan finally was able to show his full potential by appearing in the postseason. Losing Alex will hurt this team with pitching depth but getting an even record from Mathew on the rubber with Evan's offense could lead to a championship.

4. Mustangs: The cinderella team starting with the questionable trade ended up one run from the playoffs. The same team has a chance to prove it again and towards the end of the season the much needed pitching started to come through and if it can along with the great offense, this team can defy odds once more.

5. Special K's: Coming in as an expansion team this team does not have great playoff expectations but Jake, Alex, and Sam have all shown promise on the rubber and at the plate to have the potential to beat any other of the five teams but the many questions limits their rank.

6. Sea Thieves: Following an appearance in the championship in 2016, the loss of Victor in 2017 regressed this franchise greatly. With him back in addition to Darien and Bennett, this team has the tools to make it even farther and compete in the North to end the long championship drought.
